Morgan Spurlock – of “Supersize Me” documentary fame – is releasing a documentary about product placement and advertising, and funding the documentary using… product placement and advertising.
This, frankly, we don’t want to miss: “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.”
(Hat tip to American Copywriter, who offers up some interesting commentary about the trailer.)

I’m not sure why, but in terms of creative genius, this reminded me of the guy who sold one million pixels of internet ad space for $1 each. (It just popped into my head.)
I’ve seen most of Morgan Spurlock’s documentaries and a few episodes of “30 Days”. I enjoy his willingness to bring a bit of levity into serious situations – the ol’ spoonful of sugar trick. This new documentary looks promising. Can’t wait.
Wonder how the ad folks will come off in the movie. In the trailer, a lot of them look like deer in the headlights.
POM Wonderful, LLC is a privately owned company which markets an eponymous brand of beverages and fruit extracts. It was founded in 2002 by the billionaire industrial agriculture couple Stewart and Lynda Rae Resnick.
Does this suggest some form of capitulation?
Capitulation to what?
Spurlock’s point is that all this shit is happening anyway, he’s just doing it in transparent fashion. Which should prove interesting.
Obviously, the POM Wonderful people (same people who own Franklin Mint, Fiji Water, etc) are pretty savvy about the promotional opportunities…
